Brain Exercise

When I was age 10-12 I used to devour books. Then I got really into school and put all my focus into physics and calculus reading. That’s a lie. I don’t know what happened, but I somehow fell off the reading rainbow and recently climbed back on. I’ve read a few books here and there over the past year and last week I made a trip to the library to get more. Last night I finished this one:

This was an easy read, and took me 2 days to finish. I had been looking for it for months and finally was able to get my hands on a copy. The book was good, plus it’s based out of the Seattle area so it was fun to know all the locations mentioned in the book. The next book I will start today is this one:

Umm..I did not plan the books to both have half of a dogs face on the cover. I don’t really know what intrigued me to read two books in a row about dogs, I am much more of a cat person. Suddenly I want a house with five dogs. I would love any recommendations on fun reads because I am needing more things to fill my time. I can only bake/eat so many cookies. Plus this way I can read and call it brain exercise. Then I can say I exercised.

Tomorrow I am running my first 10 mile race. I have run 10 miles, and I have run 13 miles, but I have never raced 10 miles. This should be an interesting run because I’ve run maybe 13 times in the past 2 months. I’ve become more obsessed with spin classes and have been cycling more than running. Oh and it’s supposed to rain tomorrow..joy.

The vegan gods cursed me today. My house is full of candy. Reese’s (which are made from angel tears) Starburt’s, Skittles, Kit Kats, you name it. I’ve been good and haven’t touched a single piece. Today I decided to dig my paws into a snack size (the one with two in it) Starburst pack, even though I know they have gelatin in them. Well I opened the pack to find not one, but two yellow ones. I don’t like the yellow ones. I ate them anyway.

I have noticed that my left central incisor sits higher in my gums than my right one.

Weird.

Lastly, while perusing Pinterest last night I found something I NEED.

Tiffany blue “smart” wallet. Fit for my phone, my mula, my cards, and my life. Swoon.

Q: Give me BOOKS! Tell me your favorite(s) and why!

  1. Hey you! Sorry I haven’t interacted much the past little while. I’ve got too many favorite books, so I’ll just share the book I’m reading at the moment – it’s a debut novel by Joanne Bischof caled “Be Still My Soul”, and so far, it’s quite good. Oh, love that Tiffany “smart” wallet :)

  2. Oh, P.S. Have a great race tomorrow! I’m sure you’ll do great!

  3. When I came to college,I became way to busy to read as well. I used to love it and I just got too busy with life (what a shame) Good luck tomorrow. I saw a case like that at Nordstrom, but it doesn’t fit with my lifeproof case which is wayyy more needed LOL.

I’m reading the Perks of Being a Wallflower right now and it’s a fun easy read! It’s one of those books I should have read YEARS ago haha. I think maybe I should read that second book A Dog’s Purpose, I freaking love dogs, specifically mine. (I like cats, too).

  5. I need that case in my life! So cute! And I find it kind of hilarious that you picked up both of those books at the same time because that’s exactly what I did… read one after the other. I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain, but I wasn’t crazy about the other one. Win some, lose some.

I have way too many books I love to recommend. I’m not sure if you’ve read The Hunger Games (you must!) but if you like dystopian novels, a few other really great ones are Divergent, The Maze Runner, and Delirium.

  6. I know what you mean about school taking over your leisurely reading time..frustrating! I have been wanting to read The Art of Racing in the Rain, but I have to get my hands on a copy first. I have read A Dog’s Purpose and it is really good. However, get your tissues ready if you are as much of a dog lover as I am!

Good luck on your race tomorrow! A great running quote that I love: “In the first half of the race, don’t be an idiot. In the last half of the race, don’t be a wimp!”

  7. ko0ty says:

I read A LOT too and I have been since I was little. I stop when I get super busy though but lately, I’ve been getting back into it! My favorite genre is fantasy.

  8. GAH i want that wallet. so ideal, exactly what I need. I also adored the art of racing in the rain. I have to say I love the 10 mile race distance, I think you will really like it. good luck lovely!

  9. Neeeeed…that wallet. So cute!
I typically rotate between some chick lit and a more serious read. I liked Kite Runner and Thousand Splendid suns on the serious front. And Jane Green, Emily Giffin, and Lauren Wausberger write some great Chick Lit. I must admit I did read the Hungar Games and am enjoying Philipa Gregory’s books (the other boleyn girl is awesome!)

  10. Reading is definitely a luxury in high school though I wish it wasn’t! And OMG that purse looks perfect!

    Cheers

  11. Good luck tomorrow (but I doubt you need it ;] ) and HAVE FUN!!!

  12. Tiff says:

Awwww crud. Now I “need” that phone/wallet. Very cute!

Good luck on the race. You’ll do fine so long as you remember to have fun. :)

  13. Britta says:

hahaha you are actually the FUNNIEST person!! Don’t be surprised if I just laugh at all times when we hang out :D As for books.. I don’t know any fun books at the moment – how sad is that? Right now I am reading the Pursuit of Happiness and its quirky, let you know how it is when I finish it to see if its worth buying. Although I am going to Chapters today, just because I like it there, so maybe I’ll stumble upon something and let a know! Ok thats wallet/phone/everything case?!?! I need that too – ON THE XMAS LIST it goes!

Oh man! Totally thought for weeks now that your 10 MILE race was a 10km race?!?! bah. Regardless, you’re gonna totally rock it!! Just wait – I am sure your body will surprise you and you will turn into a speed demon!!!! Please post run/race pictures :D they are the best.

  14. I need to get back on the reading rainbow! :) And oh my gosh..I want that tiffany blue smart wallet!! :D

  15. Oh! J’adore that wallet!
    And Atlas Shrugged.
    Read it now, girlfriend!

    • Brittany says:

YES YES I thought of you as I typed this and I thought, “Nicole is going to tell me to read Atlas Shrugged!” I searched for it and it’s an E-Book through the library. I have to DL is to my nook! I WILL I WILL!

  16. I haven’t had too much time to read leisurely, either. So sad, because I would love to! Omg I need that wallet thing! I hate wearing purses, so that would be absolutely perfect for me.

  17. UH OH! You’re NOT going to like my Halloween Special GiGi Eats Groceries episode for this Tuesday… It’s all about DEATH BY HALLOWEEN CANDY! LOL!!!!!!!!!!! You’re going to feel CRAZY guilty about your Starburst pack you ate! LOL!!!!

  18. I loved The Art of Racing in the Rain. I recently read Molokai by Alan Brennert; it was a really good read. (A novel about lepers that were exiled to Molokai.)
    Hope your race went well!

  19. That little wallet is going on my Christmas wish.. thanks for showing it to us! I read Racing in the Rain and found it very touching.. especially that last paragraph!

  20. Lisa says:

Ok, so I haven’t read much for fun lately, but Little Bee is super good.
I must have that wallet…for serious. I’m buying it for myself as a halloween present.
My mom just gave me a book that she says is awesome…It’s called Tiny Beautiful Things by Cheryl Strayed. I think it’s like an advice column made into a book—so it’s small stories throughout.

  21. Gosh I loooove reading. When I was little, Id go through like 2 books a week. And when I say little I mean like elementary age. Once I got into high school/middle school teh reading slowed because of all teh school stuff, but I still finished a book a week. My sis and I used to treat the bookstore like a library. We’d just go there and read books, but no buy them lol

  22. Ohh I need that wallet in my life- so handy dandy! Way to go on resisting all that delicious chocolate! I’m not much of Starburst fan but whenever I do eat it, yellows are my absolute worst…reds & oranges were the best! GOOD LUCK WITH THE RACE :) ! I bet Starburst would make perfect mid-race fuel ;) !

  23. Haven’t done much reading other than the Internet, haha! No time hardly with my baby! I love that teeth shot and the purse thing is so adorable!!

  24. First of all.. you have beautiful teeth! (dental hygienist coming out here!) I hope your race went well!!! I can’t wait for school to be over so I can read some books that don’t pertain to school! ha!

  25. I love reading. I finish a book almost once a week. As for that wallet … idk if it would fit my samsung galaxy s3 … with my case. it would be a hassle to put my case on and off. I’m too scared of dropping my phone. haha

  26. Jessica says:

I love reading when I have any extra time. The Glass Castle (true story about the author growing up poor), The Undomestic Goddess (really funny), and Marley & Me (anyone that has a pet it will make you laugh and cry).

  27. Totally added “The Art of Racing” to my To Read list. Are you on GoodReads? It’s an awesome site for book lovers!

  28. I love “The Art of Racing in the Rain.” I had it on books-on-tape in the car while driving to a collaborator’s lab. And one day I came in with my mascara all run down my face. The lab (all male physicists) just didn’t understand. :p
