Carrots, Goats, and Strains

It’s time for another garden update. I have posted about my onions, my swiss chard, and now it’s time to show you my carrots.

The beets and carrots both needed to be thinned out again. The carrots that were thinned are shown above. I salvaged the bigger ones, and gave the runt carrots to the neighbors goats.

Who needs a compost bin when you can have goats!? New life goal: not only do I want a flock of chickens, (is this what they’re called? a flock..a herd..a bundle?) but I must own two goats. Not one, not three..but two. I can feed them my leftover food, and train my cats to ride them like horses. The carrots were stored in a mason jar for a day, and then they were turned into a delicious meal.

My most favoritest bowl

To digress a bit, I managed to strain my back muscles last Sunday (paralumbar to be exact) at work and refused to let it get the best of me. I tried to complete the 5 mile training run I was scheduled for, but only completed 3.1 slow miles, and stopped because I was worried I was going to over do it. The failed run, along with the back pain, and the long day at work caused me to feel a bit down. When I arrived at Manfriends house that evening, my mood quickly turned around.

Manfriend and I always cook together..always, but this time I wasn’t allowed in the kitchen. The room smelled of coconut oil and vegetables. I was excited for what was about to come my way. I sat down like a pregnant woman in her 80′s (yeah it was that bad) to enjoy my appe-teaser, which was a bowl of golden raspberries. Five minutes later, dinner was served.

There on the left..are my precious baby carrots from my garden! Along with an onion from my garden, fried purple potatoes, butternut squash, roma tomatoes, all surrounding tricolor quinoa. This meal was perfect and very much appreciated! He even arranged this plate, it looks just the way I would have arranged it. Loovee. This was the best way to eat my baby carrots! My back felt better for at least 29 seconds while eating this meal. Yay.

Two days later I had an amazing 4 mile run, (running is the only time when my back feels completely ok right now) in the pouring down rain with that guy up there. It was a great run, and was followed by a soak in the hot tub. I ran another 4 miler yesterday. My back thanked me.

Q: Have you ever pulled/strained/ tweaked a muscle? Fortunately I have been cleared to run! That was my only concern..my priorities are strictly Disneyland!

I’ll take that back in three minutes, but right now, you are totally living an adorable vegan fairytale; and I love reading about it! And the carrots are prettier than little miss muffet. This entire post just made me so happy. Mwah! :D xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo

  7. Miss. Zoe says:

you two are so cute i just want to throw you into a fan and watch you splatter all around the room. And your carrots come in close second! Back pain is the worse, my hip has been bunk since moving…. the subsequent post pictures should explain why….

  8. Patty says:

Yay for baby carrots and running and hot tubs!! Such an adorable picture of the two of you!

  9. I hate strained muscles! I tend to just lay off the ones that are pull[ed]. Once, I pulled my hamstring muscle which hurt so I did a lot of just back and arm type workouts for a while until it got better. :)
    Hope you back heals up!!

  10. Alexandra says:

GAAAHHH I love those goats and funky carrots! Would yall mind adopting me?? :D
Sending get well wishes for your back my friend! <3

  11. Your neighbours have goats?! I live in a city where the only goats you see are in books! I wish I have goat neighbours! Nice looking dinner, manfriend definitely did a good job of arranging it! :)

  12. I’m so impressed with the carrots- and those goats are just way too fun!

  13. I am jealous you live so close to people that have goats! According to Cold Mountain (both book and movie) you only need a goat to live! They provide companionship, milk, and meat if needed… love that book :)
Great job on the garden too!

  14. DSTPRL says:

Feel better. The carrots look delicious. Can’t see the beets. *sigh*

  15. Ha! I love the goats, that is awesome!! My husband has a bad back from competitive rowing and finds that running helps it feel better to0:)

  16. Those vegetables look absolutely delicious! I seem to strain my muscles a lot, which I think is because I’m not strong enough. I’m constantly straining my hip muscles it seems like. I hope your back gets better!!

  17. You and your Manfriend are SO cute together- he definitely sounds like a keeper! Hope your back is completely back to normal…nothing like an injury to set you back from meeting your goals! I pulled a shin muscle in December and it took a little over a month to recover which meant no running (much to my dismay)! My only advice: listen to your body….a few days off won’t make a difference to your fitness levels/training at all! Have a great weekend, Britt!

  18. cute goats hey…..and i once had a garden now am too lazy to make one because i moved to a diferent city…i hope your blog will motivate me with that…:)

  19. Awww…cute goats! And I love the idea of your cat riding them!

  20. Kailey says:

SO sorry to hear about your back girlie :( I think it was smart that you stopped early so you didn’t make it any worse. After all, our backs are super important ;)

  21. That picture of you two is the cutest thing I have ever seen! You are so freaking pretty!

  22. Omg, I want the goats AND home grown carrots!!! I’m sorry you strained your back! :( That’s happened to me, and it’s no fun. I just had to completely rest for a few days and then it went away. Feel better!

  23. teabagginit says:

roasted veg + coconut oil = AWESOME dinner!
ps – i just nominated you for the versatile blogger award! :)
hope your back is feeling better!

Your food looks so healthy! Gotta love clean eating

  26. imakeeper says:

Okay, first I thought the pic of the baby tiny goat like creatures was super cute…. but then I saw the pic of you and your man and was like OMGEEE CUTE NESS OVERLOAD. I love it. Please let that back heal…. and be careful at work. No more straining lumbar spiney things. You need to run disneyland like a champ and then tell me all about it.

After his marathon, Mr. Speedy didn’t strain anything but had a MASSIVE BLISTER that took up the majority of the bottom of his foot and he had to peel all the skin off like an onion. It was mega gross. He is okay now. His foot is only slightly funky looking and troll like.

I want some carrots now rawrrrrrr. And I appove your 2 goat dream. If the cats ride them like horses I just might pet them (the cats, not the goats)

    • Brittany says:

YES YES my back is feeling better..sort of. No heavy lifting and lots of moving is working. I am going to be telling you about Dland before anyone else..be prepared.

OMG..pleaseeeeeee touch the cats! HAHA That comment made me die.

  27. Those are like the cutest carrots ever. So tiny and adorable. Oh how I wish I had a garden now to eat yummy veggies like you.

  28. Look at those adorable carrots :)
I had several goats growing up…Nala, Christina, Oreo, Buttercup, Rusty….the list goes on and on!! I even had leashes and and collars for them to walk them around :)

  29. cottercrunch says:

oh yes, we want goats! how cute and awesome are they?!! and i love you and manfriend. You guys can cook for me anytime

  30. Hahaha.. maybe it should be a chook of chickens and a grunt of goats? And I’m so sorry to hear about your injury.. but what a treat to be served a feast like that!!

  31. Anyways-so now that I have checked out your giveaway, I was reading through your potsts. You are hilarious! I actually used to own two goats but we got rid of them because they were really aggressive. Um and those carrots, they look to die for!

  32. Lou Dwan says:

Boo, hope the back feels better, Britt. Manfriend is a true gem to take care of you and cook such delicious treats ;)

  33. omg such cute goats!!!
